Grant Awarded to Children's Advocacy Center

Lewisville, Texas: January 23, 2014

Texas-New Mexico Power has awarded a grant to the Children's Advocacy Center of Denton County, a nonprofit agency that assists children who have been abused and which works to prevent abuse.

A check for $3,700 was presented earlier this month to CACDC Executive Director Dan Leal and Development Director Stacie Wainscott by TNMP President Neal Walker and North Texas Operations Director Dan Nelson.

"The funding from TNMP came at a needed time," Leal said. "It pays for 74 counseling sessions for abused children or for 74 children to receive a videotaped forensic interview to tell their stories of abuse.

"The impact of that donation is magnified by the hope, healing and safety these children will receive."

TNMP and the Children's Advocacy Center have a long-standing relationship. The center is located across the street from TNMP's construction center in Lewisville. TNMP's support, among other efforts, has included employees donating needed children's items and assembling and installing playground equipment at the center.

"We're very happy that we can continue to provide support for the Children's Advocacy Center," Walker said. "They're not just our neighbors – they play a vital role in helping kids in need in Lewisville."

TNMP is a transmission and distribution service provider that delivers power to about 230,000 homes and businesses on behalf of retail electric providers in Texas. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of PNM Resources.
