Residential impact

If approved, the new rates would have the following impact:

  • affects transmission and distribution portion of bill

  • assumes 1,000 kilowatt-hours monthly usage

  • monthly average: $35.31

  • current monthly average: $30.36

Small commercial business impact

If approved, the new rates would have the following impact:

  • affects transmission and distribution portion of bill

  • assumes 400 kilowatt-hours monthly usage

  • monthly average: $34

  • current monthly average: $20

  • small commercial customers defined as electricity demand of less than 5 kilowatts

These new rates would more accurately reflect the costs associated with serving these different rate classes.

Bill impact

This will depend on customers' contracts with retail electric providers.

Some customers could see rates go up right away; others wouldn't until they select or renew contracts with retail electric providers.

The figures above refer only to transmission and distribution charges on customers' bills. These charges compose about 18.6 percent of a total bill.

Why an increase is necessary

  • Our current rates are based on 2002 costs.

  • Costs of fuel, poles, wire and other construction materials are beyond budgeted amounts.

  • We plan to spend about $243.6 million through 2011 on upgrades and new infrastructure to maintain reliability of electric service throughout our territory.
