Serving his community in two ways

Steven spends his time working to keep the lights on in the same community he is helping to develop the youth.

Steven serves as the Deacon of Youth at the Howe Church of Christ. In his third year, he finds it extremely rewarding to work with connecting children to the Bible. The work that he does introducing children greatly energizes him (pun intended).

Steven utilizes his free time for study, making lessons and worksheets that he does regularly for the youth. Recently, he has noticed that many adults like them as well, so he has started printing them out for the entire congregation. In addition, he works at a children’s camp one week every year, and this year, he is adding a 10-day trip to Africa to assist at a preacher training school.

As rewarding as being a deacon is, Steven admits it can be quite difficult to balance a full-time job and still give the attention he needs to family and church. Steven has four children of his own, so finding the balance of spending time with them and working with the church can be challenging at times. But he says God gave me the same 24 hours in a day that He gave everyone else, so Steven tries to fill it the best way he can.
